Reviewing our notion of Strength
We live in a world that often equates strength with protectiveness. This conditioning makes us hide our struggles, wear masks of invincibility and put on false fronts as bastions of unshakable confidence. However, what if we consider real strength not to be holding back our pain but rather being willing to accept that vulnerability?
Vulnerability in perspective
Vulnerability is all about openness and authenticity, real over fake. It is a powerful and transformative force, the understanding of which leads to meaningful and deeper connections.
At its core, vulnerability involves the possibility of emotional pain, failure or even rejection, that is, being open about our fears, insecurities and desires. This openness can be daunting because it strips away our protective barriers and risks being judged and hurt. Yet it is precisely this exposure that enables us to experience genuine human connection & personal growth.
Empowered by vulnerability
Embracing vulnerability helps us connect, that gives purpose and meaning to our lives. It enables us to feel worthy of ourselves, as we have shown courage to stand upright with our imperfections. Had we numbed our vulnerability, we would have also deprived ourselves of the happiness and joy in the process. It is essential for building trust and intimacy in relationships, since this expression has a reciprocal effect. Thus acknowledging our imperfections, embracing the possibility of failure, ability to take risks and pursue our passion without being paralyzed by the fear of making mistakes is a mark of significant personal development. Through this process, we learn,we grow, and become more resilient. This also leads to opening up of new ideas and perspectives, that is closely linked to creativity and innovation. We can be free from conventional thinking and explore uncharted territories.
Human emotions are supposed to be expressed, not suppressed. The word ‘vulnerable’ in Latin means a ‘wound’. Are we not supposed to treat a wound? Likewise, we should also freely accept our vulnerability, which would ultimately lead to self-discovery, enhanced self-esteem and confidence.
The perplexing questions
Having known the core values of embracing vulnerability, human behaviour is perplexing. Why do we hide our true feelings? Why do people pretend to be happy and successful on social platforms even if they are struggling in real life. In fact, even parents often push their children to excel in every aspect thinking that it is the best shield for them from failures. This hinders true connections and personal development.
Looking back at the core values
Courage isn’t just about being fearless; it’s about taking risks, facing challenges, and standing up for what matters, even when it involves significant risk. Courage needs to be complimented with Compassion, that comprises understanding, empathy and kindness. This works like the secret sauce that keeps relationships strong and helps us connect with others. These attributes are a mark of one’s authenticity, by which we stay true to ourselves. It is not the invincible that are strong but those willing to be vulnerable. Encouragement plays an important catalytic role here. like a cheerleader by your side, it nudges you to be your true self.. We get the push needed to step out of our comfort zones, tackle our fears, and learn more about ourselves along the way.
